Three of the eight games in the Division II, Region 8 playoff bracket featured Miami Valley League and Eastern Cincinnati Conference teams facing. The matchups did not go well for the MVL as the ECC swept the night including the big upset of #15 Little Miami knocking off #2 and previously undefeated Xenia, 27-24 in double overtime. League members Sidney and Troy also fell. The MVL is just 1-6 in the past three postseasons versus ECC schools.

The evening wasn’t a complete loss for the MVL as Piqua won its ninth game besting Stebbins in an intra-conference playoff battle. Tippecanoe won its 10th game for a second straight season, by blanking Hillsboro in Division III, Region 12.

XENIA, ohio – Freshmen Gunnar Hoffman connected on a pair of short field goals in overtime and double overtime as Little Miami the #15 seed went on the road to hand #2 Xenia it’s only loss of the season of the season in a stunning upset to open the first round of the Division II, Region 8 playoffs. It was the second straight week that Hoffman hit game winning field goal and his third of the year.

Panthers quarterback Grant Maupin was under pressure all night as the Xenia defense tallied seven sacks. The senior still found away to run for a pair of scores and throw a 67-yard scoring strike to Case Miller that set the tone in the first quarter of the contest. Maupin went 12-18 for 201 yards passing and 37 yards rushing. Sophomore Miller had the best day of his young career with four receptions for 109 yards and his first varsity touchdown. He had seven catches for 68 yards coming into the game.

Buccaneers star running back Trei’Shaun Sanders was held to a season low 26 yards rushing by the stingy Little Miami defense. It was 147 yards below what he was averaging per game. It was a bittersweet ending for Xenia who had its first 10-0 undefeated regular season in 134 years of playing football.
