TSF 2022 Dayton OPOY: Bryce Schondelmyer

A transfer from Division VI Arcanum senior Bryce Schondelmyer proved that he could flat out “ball” at the highest level in helping Springfield to the Division I state title game. His performance earned him the 2022 TriState Football Dayton Offensive Player of the Year, as TSF paid tribute to the area’s finest from Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, Dayton and Southeast Indiana at the Year in Review Show on Monday night, in front of a packed house at the Holy Grail in downtown Cincinnati.

Schondelmyer lit up in his only season at Springfield (13-2) throwing for 4,630 yards (12th most in a season in Ohio history), 48 touchdown passes (tied for 21st most in a season in Ohio history) and three rushing scores helping the Wildcats to their second straight state finals appearance. That effort also earned him OPSWA Division I First Team All-Ohio, GWOC OPOY and Honorable Mention All-TSF honors.

Between his two schools, Schondelmyer threw for 11,521 pass yds (fourth most all-time in Ohio history), 136 touchdown passes (fifth most all-time in Ohio), 1,766 yards rushing and 34 trips to the end zone on the ground for his career. He has signed with Youngstown State.

The other finalists were all seniors and first-time nominees for the 2022 TSF Dayton Offensive Player of the Year – Anthony Brown (Springfield), Nic Bruder (Centerville), Jacob Clark (Valley View), RJ Mukes III (Wayne), Liam Poronsky (Tippecanoe), Evan Ruzzo (Springboro), Trei’Shaun Sanders (Xenia) and Brock Short (Greenville).

TriStateFootball.com was founded in 2005 and started its Dayton postseason awards in 2009. In the 14-year history of this award, Schondelmyer becomes the third Springfield player to be named the TSF Dayton Offensive Player of the Year.
