2016 Snapshot: Wyoming

It doesn’t matter who you plug into the lineup at Wyoming they are always prepared to step up and more often than not they exceed at doing the job that they are asked to. That is why this Cowboys program has sustained success. It’s the “Wyoming Way.”

The Wyoming Way was called into play early last season when the Cowboys star quarterback went down in Week 3. The team was able to rally and make the playoffs even with a freshman under center.

This season Wyoming returns seven starters on offense and six on defense. This team will score points with a cast of very good and accomplished skill position players and the return of quarterback Andrew Marty. Like most small school teams the Cowboys will not be deep on the lines so staying healthy is imperative to success.

Division IV, Region 16
2015 RECORD: 8-3, 5-2 CHL
COACH: Aaron Hancock (33-11 at Wyoming, four years; 33-11 overall)

HONOR ROLL
Andrew Marty, Sr, QB – Marty made history this offseason becoming the first quarterback to receive a Division I FBS college offer. This all happened even though Marty went down in game three of his junior year with a knee injury. He has thrown for 2,170 yards, ran for 510 yards and accounted for 30 total touchdowns (23 passing, seven rushing). The 6-foot-4, 215 pound Marty has verbally committed to Miami (OH) but did receive an offer from Northwestern in late April.

OTHER RETURNEES
Garyn Prater, Sr, WR – This could be one of the CHL’s most pleasant surprises in ’15. A big target a 6-foot-5, 200 pound Prater will see plenty of one-on-one matchups as opponents top priorities will be Edmonds, Edmonds and Gildea. With his length expect Prater to get plenty of red zone looks from Marty.

Joseph Glisson, Sr, WR/DB – Glisson had 36 tackles as a junior. He is a solid secondary player.

Peyton Ogle, Sr, OL/DL – Leadership on the field in August will be where Ogle will shine for the Cowboys. He will be a calming influence to the youngsters on the o-line.

Max Frankel, Sr, OL/DL –Wyoming is going to look for Frankel to be a leader of the line.

Josh Malone, Jr, DL/OL – Malone has all the tools to be an all-district performer. The 6-foot-4, 255 pound wrecking machine registered 72 tackles and two-and-a-half sacks as a sophomore.

Connor O’Brien, Jr, LS/OL/DL – The 6-foot-4, 230 pound O’Brien will be pivotal on both sides of the line and on special teams as the Cowboys long snapper.

2016 SCHEDULE
The first seven games will be grueling. Wyoming will face some very athletic teams. They will need to in great physical condition and hopefully avoid getting to beat up for an October run. Starting in Week 2 the Cowboys are on the road for three of four tilts – at Taft; vs. McNicholas; at Indian Hill; at Taylor. That stretch is then followed by Mariemont coming to Bob Lewis Stadium then at Madeira.

COWBOYS AMBUSHED BY INDIANS
Wyoming lost to league rival Indian Hill twice last season. The first time was in the CHL opener it snapped a 14-game Cowboys league winning streak. The Braves ended Wyoming’s year with 31-14 victory in the first round of the Division IV, Region 14 playoffs. Prior to 2015, the Cowboys had won three in a row and five of the last six versus Indian Hill.

13 OR MORE FOR 8
In each of the last eight seasons Wyoming has had a running back find the end zone 13 times or more.
