Rain and lightning delayed much of the action, but it didn’t stop teams from taking to the gridiron and playing under the Friday night lights. Here’s a look at some of this week’s top action from Cincinnati area teams.

NO. 1 ST. XAVIER 42, NO. 8 COLERAIN 7
The top-ranked Bombers continued to flex their muscle and handed their long-time rivals one of their most lopsided losses in recent history. St. Xavier made big plays in all aspects of the game, including coming up with three turnovers.

Brogan McCaughey threw for 222 yards and three touchdowns on 12-of-12 passing. Terry McFarlin led all receivers with 109 yards and a score on four catches. Charles Kellom chipped in with a pair of rushing touchdowns.

Cardinals’ dual-threat quarterback Zaccaeus Jennings was bottled up most of the night, averaging just 2.5 yards per carry while being sacked three times.

NO. 3 LA SALLE 21, NO. 6 WINTON WOODS 7
The game lived up to expectations as these two teams combined for over 600 yards of offense, but it was the Lancers’ defense that was the difference in this one. The unit forced the Warriors into four turnovers, including a pick six by Gage Howard and a safety by Tristen Wolf.

The Lancer offense moved the ball up and down the field, but relied on place kicker Mason Luensman to drill four field goals. Gi’Bran Payne and Mason Mattingly each carried the ball 15 times, but neither of them eclipsed 80 yards rushing or found the end zone.

Winton Woods’ lone score came on a 13-yard pass from Logan Lawson to Tai’je Frazier. The Warriors converted just 4-of-14 third downs in the game.

NO. 15 KINGS 34, NO. 14 SYCAMORE 12
Kings put up 24 first-half points as they overpowered the visiting Aviators in this one. Will Kocher and Max Sannella both broke the century mark on the ground with Kocher finding his way into the end zone three times in the games.

The Knights’ defense came away with three takeovers and held Sycamore without a successful third-down conversion (0/8) in the game.

Quarterback William Ingle netted 142 yards and a score on seven carries and added 87 yards and another score through the air. He was picked off twice in the loss
