2022 Video Snapshot: Anderson

Discipline and attention to detail early in the season will be key to Anderson having another prosperous campaign. The Raptors will have to turn some question marks into proven commodities sooner rather than later if they want to have their first 10-win season since 2017.

Anderson lost a ton of productivity to graduation. “We have a few skilled players that can compete against anyone. We need a few more to step up,” head coach Evan Dreyer says. Expect that that to happen. Like most of Dreyer’s teams, the next man up rarely disappoints.

Winning and success is not rocket science to Dreyer. “When our offense did not turn the ball over more than three times in a game, we won last season.” Anderson committed 24 turnovers (one per half on average) and still had an offense that averaged 34.75 points per contest.

Taking care of the football will be a major help to the boys in the trenches. “Our offensive and defensive lines will be young and inexperienced at the beginning of the season,” Dreyer states. Keeping the Raptors defense off the field with sustained drives and moving the chains, will be pivotal. If they can make that happen, Anderson will be tough to beat.

Division II, Region 8
2021 RECORD: 9-3, 7-1 ECC
COACH: Evan Dreyer (49-19 at Anderson, six years; 93-47 overall, 13 years)

Brandon Pitts, Sr, WR/DB – A very good athlete who could become a big factor on offense and defense. Pitts was named Second Team All-ECC as a junior.

Santos Alvarez, Sr, WR – With the departure of Joey Faulkner and his 121 receptions for 1,744 yards and 16 touchdowns, Alvarez is looking at a monster year ahead of him. He was named Honorable Mention All-ECC after hauling in 73 balls for 848 yards and four touchdowns a year ago.

Isaiah Sadler, Sr, DB – Will be called upon to be a leader in the secondary. Sadler had one carry last season, it went for a 12-yard touchdown versus Loveland.

Will Karswich, Sr, LB – Has a real nose for the ball. Karswich recorded one-and-a-half sacks, recovered a fumble and had a 43-yard pick six as a junior.

Brodey Berg, Jr, RB/LB – A short yardage specialist as a sophomore. Berg had 166 yards and six touchdowns on 47 carries. Four of those scores came in a win over West Clermont.

NEWCOMERS
It’s tme to step up for a promising groups of Raptors juniors that includes
RB Michael Smith, OL Bobby Stanyard, OL Andrew Mineer, OL Brandon Philhower, DB Joey Emrick and LB David Norgren. The young offensive linemen have a chance to be very good unit by the time it is all said and done. Despite a small sample size of just five games, Emrick played very well against upper upper-level competition.

Transfers senior TE/DE Chandler Starks and sophomore WR/DB Trace Jallick offer Scalf a couple of big targets to throw to. Starks picked up his first offer from Tiffin this past offseason.

Sophomore TE Caden Piening is a star waiting to happen. At 6-foot-4 and 225-pounds he is a big target that should his presence felt in 2021. He has offer from Akron, UConn, Eastern Kentucky, Indiana, Kentucky, Pitt, Vanderbilt and West Virginia.
