Another grueling schedule for St. Xavier is highlighted by a Week 2 Sunday matinee at Loyola Academy, 20 minutes north of downtown Chicago on ESPN. The Bombers only leave the Cincinnati area one other time when they travel to Louisville Trinity.

The season starts off with an opportunity to avenge last year’s playoff loss to Lakota West. It will be the fourth meeting between the schools in the last 16 games for the Bombers.

St. Xavier will open up GCL South play against Division I, Region 4 champion, Moeller. The Bombers haven’t lost a league game since October 18th, 2019.

The teams that St. Xavier will play were a combined 76-49 (.608 winning %) in 2021. None of the opponents are reigning state champions.

Here is a look at the 2022 St. Xavier schedule:

Fri – 08/19/22 – at Lakota West (11-2 in 2021) – 7:00 PM
Su – 08/28/22 – at Loyola Academy (IL) (12-1) – 2:00 PM
Fri – 09/02/22 – OLENTANGY LIBERTY (5-6) – 7:00 PM
Fri – 09/09/22 – MISHAWAKA PENN (IN) (6-6) – 2:00 PM
Fri – 09/16/22 – MOELLER (11-4) – 7:00 PM
Fri – 09/23/22 – at Elder (6-6) – 7:00 PM
Fri – 09/30/22 – at Louisville Trinity (KY)(6-8) – 7:00 PM
Fri – 10/07/22 – at La Salle (7-5) – 7:00 PM
Sat – 10/15/22 – ST. IGNATIUS (8-5) – TBA
Fri – 10/21/22 – LIFE CHRISTIAN ACADEMY (VA)(4-6) – 7:00 PM

FINAL TAKE: Circle the Week 3 home opener. After back-to-back road games against a pair of squads that won 11 games last fall and a short five-day turnaround, this contest will test the Bombers mettle to the max. By the end of the Olentangy game we should have a good idea about who this team is and the direction they are headed in.

There are many questions to be answered on offense. St. Xavier only has two players on the roster that have scored offensive touchdowns, Joey Wassler (one rec) and Robert Houston II (one rec). The good news a ginormous o-line that would make many FBS schools envious should open holes for the rushing attack and give ample protection in the passing game. That will allow for new players at the skill positions emerge and become stars. The St. Xavier coaching staff hopes that happens sooner rather than later. If it doesn’t, the regular season is going to be an monumental uphill battle.
