2022 Snapshot: Monroe

It’s not rocket science for Monroe under head coach Bob Mullins. The Hornets are going to run the football out of their Flexbone Triple-Option offense and stop the run, on defense. Mullins men took heed of that philosophy in 2021 and responded with the schools first winning season since 2015 and its most victories since 2009.

Monroe is ready to expand on its good fortunes of last season. The Hornets are going to be explosive on offense and tenacious on defense. This group is primed to give the program its first postseason triumph in 13 years.

Monroe returns players that accounted 88.2% of its rushing yards (3,769), 79.5% of its rushing touchdowns (44) and 100% of its receiving yards and touchdowns in 2021. The Hornets defense is equally as experienced returning nine of its 10 top tacklers.

This is a battle tested team that went 3-2 in games decided by eight points or less a year ago. The veterans on the squad are 11-2 in their last 13 regular season games. Monroe’s moxie should lead it to another fulfilling season.

Division III, Region 12

COACH: Bob Mullins (14-16 at Monroe, three years; 14-16 overall)

HONOR ROLL
Elijah Jackson (Monroe) – One of the elite talents in Region 12. Jackson was named OPSWA Division III Second Team All-Ohio, SWBL East Co-Offensive Player of the Year and TriState Football Dayton Offensive Player of the Year finalist as a junior after running for 1,941 yards and 20 touchdowns. His 403 yards on the ground versus Western Brown made him just the 61st player in Ohio history to run for more than 400 yards in a game.
