Dayton Round-Up: Fairmont Stuns Springfield

After starting the GWOC season at 0-2, things looked pretty bleak for Fairmont as their bus rolled into unbeaten Springfield, the Division I reigning state runner-up. The Firebirds responded to the challenge of “their backs being up against the wall.”

Fairmont dominated the line of scrimmage, holding the ball for over 35 of the games 48 minutes. They figured out best way to beat the Wildcats was to keep that high octane offense off the field. Springfield ran just 36 offensive plays, 18 less than Fairmont and outgained them by 43 yards. Compounding the frustrations for the Wildcats were a pair of turnovers, tilting the contest in favor of the visitors on this night.

Sophomore Brock Baker ran for two touchdowns and senior Drew Baker grinded out a game high 115 yards on 32 carries for the victors. It was the 18th time that Drew Baker has topped the 100-yard mark rushing in his career.

Daylen Bradley had eight receptions for 83 yard and two touchdown catches for Springfield. He has 12 touchdown receptions in his last 12 games.
