Cincinnati Round-Up: Crusaders cruise

Moeller continued their winning ways, and a defending champ passed a big test in the Eastern Cincinnati Conference. We are just passed the halfway mark in the high school football regular season and teams continue to make their move for playoff position. Week six was no different in the Cincinnati area.

NO. 2 MOELLER 47, NO. 9 LA SALLE 14
Moeller got off to a torrid start against La Salle and never looked back as they got a convincing win on Friday night. Alec Weeder scored a pair of first-half touchdowns to aid in the Crusaders’ efforts. Weeder took a 25-yard touchdown pass from Luke Dunn for the game’s first score. Moeller would convert a 2-pt conversion to lead 8-0.

Jordan Marshall had a 3-yard run for a touchdown and Weeder added a 3-yard scamper of his own in the second quarter and it was a 21-0 score with 9:34 to go in the half. Weeder carried 10 times for 56 yards in the win.

La Salle had a brief response when Mattingly found Jackson for a touchdown pass. The hosts cut the lead to 21-7 and tried to stop more of the Moeller momentum. Moeller went back on a solid drive and capped it off when Dunn took a QB sneak into the endzone from 1-yard out. Moeller led 28-7 at the half and went on to a dominating victory.

NO. 3 WINTON WOODS 62, N0. 18 ANDERSON 31
Winton Woods continued its dominant quest towards another ECC championship with a big victory over visiting Anderson. The Warriors used a big second half to keep their grips on first place in the league.

Winton Woods scored 35 third quarter points to pull away from Anderson by a score of 62-31 on Friday night. The Warriors dominated the game on the ground as they outgained the Raptors 423-64 on the ground.

Leading the way for Winton Woods was Trey Cornist. The running back carried the ball 17 times for 319 yards and five touchdowns. Cornist had touchdown runs of 67,59, 40, 33, and 12 yards effectively putting his stamp on the win.

Anderson’s potent passing attack was on display in the loss. Griffin Scalf found his usual mates

in Brodey Berg and Santos Alvarez for big plays but the Warriors were too much to overcome.

NO. 24 WESTERN BROWN 36, NO. 25 NEW RICHMOND 20
Western Brown ended New Richmond’s undefeated season with a 36-20 victory to start conference play. New Richmond was held more than half below their average in the loss as the Bronco defense stepped up in that department.

Western Brown got a typical strong performance from quarterback Drew Novak. He found Matthew Frye eight times for 204 yards and all three of his touchdowns. Novak also rushed for 108 yards and another score.
