Preview: Moeller at St. Xavier

As the first half of the regular season comes to a close, it’s only appropriate that the Blitz 5 Game of the Week stops at St. Xavier for the Greater Catholic League South opener that has unbeaten Moeller wading in hostile waters.

The visiting Crusaders have been dominant from the start in 2022. They are 8-1 in their last nine games dating back to the beginning of last year’s playoffs. League play has been a completely different story for Moeller who is a combined 1-8 the past three campaigns against its GCL South rivals.

St. Xavier has won the last two conference titles and hasn’t lost to a GCL South team since October 18th, 2019. The Bombers have no intentions on relinquishing their rule.

The Bombers have won 10 games in each of the past two seasons. Under Steve Specht, St. Xavier has chalked up 10 victories or more 10 times in his 18 years at the helm.

MOELLER’S KEYS TO VICTORY: Take care of the football especially when running it. The more the merrier in joining the party on offense. Get as many skill players involved as possible. Make it difficult for St. Xavier to zero in on Marshall.

ST. XAVIER’S KEYS TO VICTORY: If the Bombers defense continues progressing like it has the past two weeks, they will be in this game until the finish. St. Xavier must limit the big plays. Keep everything in front and make Moeller earn their points playing in a more compacted space.

Prediction: Moeller 28, St. Xavier 21
