NKY Round-Up: CovCath rolls on

The Colonels’ perfect season continued on Friday night as they advanced to the Class 5A state semifinals by winning on yet another running clock, 49-9, over Madison Southern.

Running back Daniel Felix was unstoppable most of the night for the Eagles’ defense. The senior scored four times in less than three quarters of play, finishing with 86 yards on 10 carries to lead CovCath.

Caleb Jacob added 136 yards and a touchdown through the air as he completed 9-of-11 passes in the victory.

The defense was just as good for the Colonels as they held Madison Southern to just 67 yards of offense and nearly pitched a shutout. The Eagles scored late on a safety and then returned the ensuing kick for a touchdown, but were otherwise shutout. Ryan Schneider and Jack Raisbeck each had an interception in the win. Michael Mayer led all Colonels with five tackles in limited action.

With the victory, CovCath is now set to welcome Bowling Green to Park Hills next Friday with a trip to the Class 5A state championship on the line.

Beechwood 42, West Carter 7
The Tigers treated the home crowd to a big playoff win on Friday night as they cruised by West Carter to advance to the Class 2A state semifinals next week.

Cam Hergott had a monster night in the win, throwing for two scores and rushing for another pair of touchdowns. Both of his TD passed went to Parker Mason (39, 23), who also came up with his seventh interception of the season on defense.

With the win Beechwood is now set to face a familiar foe, Mayfield, on the road next Friday for the right to play for Class 2A state title.

Tates Creek 47, Simon Kenton 8
Simon Kenton had no answers for Tates Creek on the road in Class 6A action as they suffered their biggest loss of the season.

The Pioneers were playing without some key cogs due to injury and had problems moving the football most of the night. The same couldn’t be said for their opponent.

Tates Creek scored on a 62-yard pass play from Luke Duby to Elliot Bryant on the game’s very first play and they never looked back as they went on to build a 21-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. Duby threw five touchdowns and ran for another in the win.

The only touchdown of the night for Simon Kenton came on a 40-yard catch and run by Caleb Livers. The Pioneers finish the year 8-5.

Class 4A

Class 2A
