2021 Snapshot: Indian Hill
- Updated: June 28, 2021
It’s hard to believe that Indian Hill hasn’t won a regional title as good as they have been in the 21st century. The Braves posted their seventh straight winning season and extended their program best to six consecutive playoff berths in 2020. This squad now looks to make some history of their own.
Division IV, Region 16 is loaded with quality schools including Indian Hill’s league rival, Wyoming (who has won the last three Region 16 crowns), Clinton-Massie, Valley View, McNicholas, Waverly, Milton-Union and Taft. To be champions in this region a team must run through a grueling gauntlet.
The Braves who are a combined 54-13 over the last six campaigns will be explosive and highly entertaining to watch once again in 2021. “We have athleticism. This team is loaded at the skills spots with returning starters at all five of the offensive positions and four of the defensive positions,” head coach Tony Arcuri states. “The offensive line will need to come together around the two returning seniors.”
Indian Hill will find out early on how they stack up against their peers with three of its first four tilts against Region 16 teams. The schedule is in their favor, down the stretch. It will give Arcuri and his staff some time to develop depth. If those youngsters show they can handle Friday night lights, the Braves will be difficult to deal with in the playoffs.
Division IV, Region 16
2020 RECORD: 7-1, 6-0 CHL
COACH: Tony Arcuri (59-17 at Indian Hill, seven years; 72-25 overall, nine years)
HONOR ROLL
Ty Thornton, Sr, QB/CB – Had an excellent first season as the Indian Hill starting quarterback. Thornton threw for 1,089 yards, ran for 398 yards and accounted for 23 touchdowns (15 pass, eight rush), as a junior. He was named OPSWA Division IV Third Team All-Ohio for his efforts. Thornton has an offer from Marshall.
Antwan Peek Jr., Sr, RB/CB – Gets the opportunity to be the Braves “go-to” back this fall. Peek was named Second Team All-CHL (DB) as a junior. He has 561 yards rushing, 10 touchdowns on the ground, 28 total tackles and an interception, at the varsity level.
Carson Devine, Sr, OL/LB – A returning starter who will provide leadership in the trenches. Devine earned Honorable Mention All-CHL accolades, as a junior.
Garrett McClung, Sr, OL/LB – The anchor of the offensive line. McClung was an Honorable Mention All-CHL selection, as a junior.
OTHER RETURNEES
Will Adair, Sr, RB/LB – Back for his third year as a starter. Adair has 94 total tackles, three sacks and an interception, in his career.
Luke Folke, Sr, WR/SS/K – Is a threat as a runner and a receiver. Folke had 160 yards rushing, two receptions for 61 yards and found the end zone four times (three rush, one rec), as a junior. He will also handle kicking duties for the Braves. Folke connected on 38/41 extra points and both of his field goal attempts, a year ago.
Cooper Wyler, Sr, HB/SS – Will play a much larger role on both sides of the ball, as a senior. Wyler had five receptions for 58 yards and a touchdown in 2020.
Robbie Guttman, Sr, QB/LB – Makes things happen when the ball is in his hands. Guttman accounted for four touchdowns (one pass, three rush) on 17 offensive touches in 2020. He has 215 yards and five touchdowns rushing, in his career.
Josef David, Sr, OL/DL – Looks to contribute on both sides of the line and provide senior leadership this fall.
James Vollmer, Sr, RB/LB – Should have a bigger impact on the defensive side of the ball, as a senior.
NEWCOMERS
Sophomores OL/DL Chase Lanham, H-back/LB Justin Kattus, H-back/DE Eli Riggs and QB/DB Alex Grace will push for playing time and try to break into the rotation. Riggs snared his first varsity interception against Finneytown last fall.
