WYOMING, Ohio – In another edition of the Battle of the Hill rivalry, the Indian Hill Braves made a big statement on the road, utilizing a balanced but effective offensive approach and a suffocating defensive effort to defeat the Cowboys 28-7. The Braves victory marks Wyoming’s second regular season loss in the last 94 contests .
After a slow start for both offenses, the Braves set the tone after they stuffed Wyoming on a crucial fourth down in their own red zone. Cowboys junior quarterback David Dupee tried to set up a screen pass to his junior running back Jackson Hamilton, but sophomore linebacker Joey Jernigan blew the play up.
It was a breakout party for Braves junior quarterback Devlan Daniel. Using both his tough running and his strong arm, Indian Hill’s signal caller controlled the game offensively. He was accurate in the passing game, and even showed off his touch when capped their first scoring drive off with a floating pass to his senior tailback Evan Riggs for a 20-yard touchdown.
Wyoming tried to respond, but Daniel – who also plays safety- and the Indian Hill defense was not to be denied. The Cowboys tried to run their offense through Hamilton and junior wideout Josiah Gault all evening, but the Braves handled both when their number was called.

Daniel continued his impressive performance, as he took a quarterback draw play 21 yards into the endzone, breaking multiple tackles en route. After each and every big play, Daniel was the first one to celebrate or keep the juices flowing for his teammates, which never receded during the Braves big win.
“These dudes fight for me, I’m going to fight for them,” said Daniel. “I’m not going down until I physically have to. I put it all out there and thankfully I found a hole and was able to make the play.”
Late in the first half, Wyoming came within fingertips of bringing the game to within one score, as Dupee rolled to his left and found his junior slot receiver Drew Bocian wide open streaking towards the Braves endzone. Dupee’s heave was just out of the reach of Bocian, and Indian Hill stood tall once again, taking a two score lead into halftime.
Coming out after halftime, there was no rust to knock off for Daniel and the Braves offense. Junior wideout Dylan Hartman broke free for a huge 50+ yard touchdown catch, giving Indian Hill a 21-0 lead.
Down three scores early in the second half, and with the home crowd silent, the Cowboys offense was forced to rely on the passing game to try to get back into the contest and make it a game, but they were met with a stiff secondary for Indian Hill.
At one point, the Cowboys had moved the ball to their own 40-yard line after a string of successful passing attempts, but Indian Hill’s defense got two sacks and forced Wyoming to punt from their own 5 yard line. The punt was then tipped by the Braves, giving Daniel and the offense the ball in the Cowboys redzone.
With such great field position, the Braves offense used their physicality to tack on another score, as Riggs bullied his way for a 10-yard scoring run, his second touchdown of the evening.
When Daniel took a knee to end the contest, the scoreboard told the whole story: while the Braves offense was able to effectively move the ball down the field and rack up 28 points, their defense deserved all the praise.
“Our defense, they’re different. Those dudes, they are maniacs,” Daniel said. “Our gameplan was to play our game, it had worked for three weeks. We schemed to shut down their passing game, and ultimately we did.”
In defeat, the Cowboys will look to regroup for their next contest as they host Taylor (2-2, 1-0). Indian Hill will look to stay undefeated as they host Mariemont (2-2, 0-1).
