Schedule Sneak Peek: Edgewood
- Updated: June 1, 2021
There is a good mix of teams on the Edgewood schedule this season. It includes five non-conference contests to open up the year.
The Cougars start off with a pair tilts versus Division I opponents, then they will take on five straight Division III schools and end with two of their last three games against Division II foes. The combined 2020 record of the schools on the slate was 41-45 (.477 winning %). Only four of the squads finished with a winning record.
Edgewood is looking for its 15th playoff appearance in school history (13-14 overall record). The Cougars are also striving for back-to-back postseason appearances for the first time since 2006-’08.
Here is a look at the 2021 Edgewood schedule:
Fri – 08/20/21 – MILFORD (4-4 in 2020) – 7:00 PM
Fri – 08/27/21 – at Hamilton (6-4) – 7:00 PM
Fri – 09/03/21 – at Franklin (5-3) – 7:00 PM
Fri – 09/10/21 – FENWICK (1-7) – 7:00 PM
Fri – 09/17/21 – CHAMINADE JULIENNE (3-5) – 7:00 PM
Fri – 09/24/21 – at Mount Healthy (3-5) – 7:00 PM
Fri – 10/01/21 – at Northwest (5-4) – 7:00 PM
Fri – 10/08/21 – TALAWANDA (3-5) – 7:00 PM
Fri – 10/15/21 – ROSS (8-1) – 7:00 PM
Fri – 10/22/21 – at Harrison (3-7) – 7:00 PM
FINAL TAKE: Edgewood should get back to the playoffs especially with the expansion from eight to 16 teams. The Cougars must take care of business against the smaller schools on the schedule. Eking out a victory or two against Hamilton and Milford will be a huge plus in accruing computer points.
Division II, Region 8 is loaded. There will be little margin for error. To snare a playoff berth, Edgewood must beat who they are supposed to. If that doesn’t happen, their stay in the playoffs could be very short. The Cougars want to avoid getting a lower postseason seed and a potential first round playoff matchup versus La Salle, Winton Woods, Piqua, Anderson, Kings or Turpin.
