Blitz 5 Top 25: Week 3

If the first two games are any indication of what is to come this season inside the Blitz 5 Top 25 presented by TriStateFootball.com, it is going to be unsettled chaos for many more weeks. Winton Woods remains atop the poll and three new schools enter the rankings, Cooper, Clinton-Massie and Sycamore.

There are five games that will see Blitz 5 Top 25 teams facing off in Week 3, #4 Moeller at #8 East Central, #3 Princeton hosting #21 Lakota East, #7 Lakota West at #18 Fairfield, #14 Mason at #20 Hamilton and #16 Middletown at #25 Sycamore.

Here is a look at the latest Blitz 5 Top 25:

  1. Winton Woods (2-0) – LAST WEEK: beat WALNUT HILLS (0-2), 48-0. Warriors running backs Tyler Gooden and Isaiah Garrett have combined to run for 300 yards on 25 attempts and three touchdowns in two games. NEXT UP: 9/1 – WEST CLERMONT (1-1).

  2. St. Xavier (2-0) – LAST WEEK: won at Martin Luther King, Jr. (MI) (0-1), 44-8. Another long bus trip to Chattanooga for the road weary Bombers will test their mettle on Friday night. NEXT UP: 9/1 – at McCallie (TN)(2-0).

    3. Princeton (2-0) – LAST WEEK: won at then #5 Lakota West (0-2), 18-3. The Vikings defense has been stellar against the run holding opponents to (-40) yards rushing on 45 carries. NEXT UP: 9/1 – #21 LAKOTA EAST (0-2).

    4. Moeller (1-1) – LAST WEEK: beat BISHOP DWENGER (IN)(0-2), 57-0. The Crusaders take out their frustrations on the boys from Fort Wayne as six different players hit pay dirt. NEXT UP: 9/1 – at #8 East Central (2-0).

    5. Elder (1-1) – LAST WEEK: beat NEUMANN-GORETTI (PA) (0-1), 35-14. The Panthers defense improves, leaps-and-bounds, in Week 2 with three takeaways and holding Neumann-Goretti to 3-16 on third and fourth down conversion attempts. NEXT UP: 9/1 – SPRINGBORO (0-2).

    6. Withrow (1-0) – LAST WEEK: won at Springboro (0-2), 29-10. The Division II Tigers picked up a second win over a Division I team. NEXT UP: 9/1 – LIMA SENIOR (1-1).

    7. Lakota West (0-2) – LAST WEEK: lost at #3 Princeton (2-0), 18-3. Through two weeks, the Firebirds have yet to find the end zone. NEXT UP: 9/1 – at #18 Fairfield (0-2).

    8. East Central (2-0) – LAST WEEK: beat HARRISON (1-1), 42-7. Back-to-back 42-7 wins for the Trojans has shown their balance in all phases of the game. NEXT UP: 9/1 – #4 MOELLER (1-1).

    9. Anderson (2-0) – LAST WEEK: beat LOVELAND (0-2), 48-14. Junior quarterback Justice Burnam is red-hot, completing 84.6% of his passes for 647 yards with nine touchdown passes and no interceptions through two games. NEXT UP: 9/1 – LEBANON (1-1).

    10. Milford (2-0) – LAST WEEK: won at Lebanon (1-1), 34-29. Reece Davis has 16 touchdown catches in his last 13 stars for the Eagles. NEXT UP: 9/1 – at Loveland (0-2).

    11. Covington Catholic (2-0) – LAST WEEK: won at then #25 Highlands (1-1), 35-21. The Colonels showed off their depth at the skill positions in a come-from-behind “statement” victory at Highlands. NEXT UP: 9/1 – Simon Kenton (2-0).

    12. Taft (2-0) LAST WEEK: won at Reading (1-1), 40-27. Senators senior Tayshawn Banks is averaging 187.0 all-purpose yards per game. NEXT UP: 9/1 – DUPONT MANUAL (KY) (2-0).

    13. Kings (2-0) – LAST WEEK: beat TURPIN (1-1), 38-10. Over his last three games junior receiver Nate Lyman is averaging 28.2 yards on 13 receptions for 367 yards and four touchdowns for the Knights. NEXT UP: 9/1 – WALNUT HILLS (0-2).

    14. Mason (1-1) – LAST WEEK: won at Oak Hills (1-1) 24-14. The Comets are 11-2 over their last 13 contests. NEXT UP: 9/1 – at #20 Hamilton (1-1).

    15. Mount Healthy (2-0) – LAST WEEK: beat ROSS (0-2), 40-14. Things don’t get any easier for the Owls as the next three teams on the schedule have yet to lose. NEXT UP: 9/1 – at Wilmington (2-0).

    16. Middletown (2-0) – LAST WEEK: beat then #22 COLERAIN (0-2). 20-3. The Middies are 2-0 for the first time since 2011. NEXT UP: 9/1 – at #25 Sycamore (1-1).

    17. La Salle (1-1) – LAST WEEK: lost at Northmont (2-0), 38-31. The Lancers succumb to the Thunderbolts, but the offense has its highest scoring output in a year. NEXT UP: 9/1 – FAIRMONT (1-1).

    18. Fairfield (0-2) – LAST WEEK: lost to SYCAMORE (1-1), 24-21. A porous defense has seen the Indians give up 864 yards and allow opponents to convert 68.0% of their third and fourth down attempts through two games. NEXT UP: 9/1 – #7 LAKOTA WEST (0-2).

    19. Badin (2-0) – LAST WEEK: won at Columbus De Sales (1-1), 10-6. The Rams’ defense was sensational once again as the program notched its 29th straight regular season win. NEXT UP: 9/2 – EDGEWOOD (0-2).

    20. Hamilton (1-1) – LAST WEEK: won at then #13 Lakota East (0-2), 21-0. The Big Bule offense comes to life with just their third 20-point plus output since the beginning of 2022. NEXT UP: 9/1 – #14 MASON (1-1).

    21. Lakota East (0-2) – LAST WEEK: lost to then #22 HAMILTON (1-1), 21-0. Things may be rough right now, but the future looks bright for the Thunderhawks who have a ton of talented underclassmen. NEXT UP: 9/1 – at #3 Princeton (2-0).

    22. Beechwood (2-0) – LAST WEEK: won at Campbell County (1-1), 50-7. The names may have changed but the results are still the same as the Tigers picked up their 12th straight victory. NEXT UP: 9/1 – at Dixie Heights (1-1).

    23. Cooper (2-0) – LAST WEEK: beat HENRY CLAY (0-2), 42-2. Junior Austin Alexander has been a dominating force on both sides of the ball with six receptions for 191 receiving yards, three touchdown catches, 10 solo tackles and four sacks. NEXT UP: 9/1 – at Ryle (1-1).

    24. Clinton-Massie (2-0) – LAST WEEK: beat then #25 Edgewood (0-2), 42-0. Senior Logan Chesser is on fire with 369 yards and six touchdowns on 31 carries (11.9 yards/carry) in two games. NEXT UP: 9/1 – TRI-VALLEY (1-1).

    25. Sycamore (1-1) – LAST WEEK: won at then #7 Fairfield (0-2), 24-21. The Aviators snap a 12-game skid with a great team win at Fairfield. NEXT UP: 9/1 – #16 MIDDLETOWN (2-0).
