Cincinnati Round-Up: Hamilton stays strong

Conference races are taking shape across the area as the GCL-S was decided and a GMC rivalry got its latest installment in Butler County.

NO. 4 MOELLER 38, NO. 3 ELDER 7

Moeller took claim of the GCL South title with a dominant victory on the road inside of The Pit in Price Hill. Running back Jordan Marshall rushed into the record books by becoming the all time leading rusher in Moeller’s storied history during the victory. He had 113 yards and two touchdowns on the night.

The Moeller defense did their part in the victory as well by shutting down the high powered offense of Elder. The Crusaders came away with four interceptions to consistently turn the Panthers away from the endzone on their home field. Elder quarterback Ryan Brass was held to just 13 yards rushing on the night and one score

Moeller has now won three straight games and seems to be gearing up towards another run in the postseason.

NO. 14 HAMILTON 18, NO. 21 MIDDLETOWN 14

Hamilton continued their strong season by going on the road and defeating rival Middletown at Barnitz Stadium on Friday night. The Big Blue defense continued their great season as they held down the Middletown offense for four quarters. The offense did just enough to secure the victory and keep their hopes of a league title alive.

RJ Shephard-Ruffin hauled in a touchdown pass from quarterback Antonio Mathis to get the scoring started for Hamilton. After a two point conversion, Hamilton led 8-0. Connor Stephens added a field goal and Cournell Bennett-McCoy scored from 1-yard out to help get Hamiton the win.

Middletown quarterback Jerimiah Landers rushed for a score and passed for a score to lead the Middies in the loss.

NO. 9 WINTON WOODS 13, NO. 18 KINGS 12

Zay Jennings scored the late go-ahead touchdown to lift Winton Woods to a 13-12 home victory over visiting Kings.

The Warriors and Knights have played several down to the wire battles over the last couple of seasons and this one did not disappoint either. One of the premiere rivalries in the ECC continued to deliver this time around.

Both defenses stepped up to the challenge and held the opposing offenses down to keep their team in the game. In the end it was the Warriors who did just enough to secure the win.
