Cincinnati Round-Up: Anderson wins 22nd straight regular season game

It has been a great season for High School football across the greater Cincinnati area, and week 6 of action was no different, including a top-10 matchup in the GCL South and a top-25 matchup in the GMC.

#3 ANDERSON 63, MILFORD 0

It was all Anderson once again on Friday night, as the Raptors dismantled their ECC foe Milford both offensively and defensively, en route to a 63-0 victory over the Eagles at home.

From the first snap of the ball, it was clear that the Raptors were in complete control of the game in all phases of competition. The senior duo of quarterback Owen Scalf and wide receiver Tegan Jallick were operating at a surgical level together in the passing game, while Anderson could rely on their Junior tailback Jordan Davis to churn out big yards rushing the football.

While Anderson’s offense continues to be one of the highest-scoring units in Cincinnati, their defense has been just as impressive, a trend that continued during Friday’s contest.

Milford had little success throwing the football, as the Raptors defense was flying all over the field and holding the Eagles to minimal gains in both the passing and rushing departments. Anderson’s defense set the tone early, as senior linebacker Brady Kuhn flew into the backfield to drop Milford’s tailback for a 10-yard loss on a screen.

By halftime, Anderson had built a 42-0 lead, which included two scores by Davis on the ground, and a blocked punt that turned into a Raptors score. When the third quarter started, the game was already on a running clock, and the number 3 team in the tri-state cruised to another huge win and built on its impressive undefeated season.

Next week, Anderson will travel across the township to play arch-rival Turpin, while Milford will look to bounce back against Lebanon at home.

#1 MOELLER 42, #9 LA SALLE 7

Over the course of the season, the top-ranked Moeller Crusaders have displayed an impressive ability to win games in multiple different ways, and Friday night’s contest was no different; the Crusaders and star Senior quarterback Matt Ponatoski ran roughshod all over the Lancers defense, winning 42-7 in the process.

Ponatoski, the reigning Ohio Mr. Football had been having a quiet year by his standards, but Friday night was the seniors 2025 season coming out party, highlighted by a throw to the corner of the endzone to junior wideout Reggie Watson, extending the Crusaders lead to two scores early.

Meanwhile, the often overlooked Moeller defense had an impressive night, faced with the task of controlling La Salle’s own high-flying offense led by senior quarterback Avi Carter.

Carter struggled against the Crusaders defense, as he threw the interception that led to Ponatoski’s touchdown toss to Reggie Watson. Despite Carter and the Lancers struggles on offense, senior tailback Colin Woolridge did have a nice evening of his own, including a 10-yard touchdown run to put La Salle on the board in the third quarter.

With the win, Moeller moves to 5-1 on their season, and undefeated in GCL South play. They will travel to The Pit to face undefeated Elder in a battle for the conference title. La Salle will look to get back in the win column after losing two of their last three, as they will host Roncalli.

#15 LAKOTA WEST 27, #14 MIDDLETOWN 13

In a battle of two top-25 teams from the Greater Miami Valley conference, the Lakota West Firebirds got their season back on track with a big win over the Middletown Middies, 27-13 on Friday evening.

Coming into the contest, the Firebirds were in the midst of a mid-season slide that they had not experienced in over five years, having lost two straight conference contests to Princeton and Fairfield.

Their game against Middletown proved that Lakota West is still one of the teams to beat in the GMC, as they were able to overcome a struggling performance offensively to defeat the Middies in a multitude of different ways.

It was a largely defensive battle between the two squads, as the Firebirds only managed to outgain the Middies 92-to-76 in total offensive yardage. The difference in this contest was multiple big plays by Lakota West on both sides of the ball, including a 85-yard pick-six by senior defensive back Kolyn Ogletree.

Middletown could not capitalize on their defense’s solid performance, and allowed the Firebirds offense to control the game and wear the Middies defense out, as the West offense held the ball for 27 minutes of the game, compared to Middletown’s 18 minutes of possession.

Moving forward, Lakota West will look to build on their big win as they travel to face Colerain, while Middletown will look to bounce back against Lakota East at home.
