Chisholm runs over SK for 448 yards

INDEPENDENCE, Kentucky – It is rare that one player beats an entire team but Jake Chisholm did his best to accomplish that feat in a 56-38 win over the Simon Kenton Pioneers at Chlorine Menifee Stadium. The senior running back carried the ball 43 times for 448 yards and scored six rushing touchdowns.

The last Northern Kentucky running back to be credited with over 400 yards rushing was Cooper’s D’vontae Bradley who rushed for 410 yards against Conner in 2010.

“Our offensive line looked awesome tonight and Jake Chisholm was unbelievable,” said Ryle head coach Mike Engler. “There is no words to describe how good Jake Chisholm is and he’ll be successful at anything he does life.”

After the incredible performance Chisholm kept his remarkable accomplishment in perspective.

“The only thing that’s going through my head right now is that this was a great win for our team. We definitely needed this big win headed into the playoffs and to continue the momentum into next week against Dixie. Carry that through the playoffs and hopefully get to the state championship.” said Chisholm.

Chisholm gained 188 yards on his six touchdown carries alone, giving credit to his offensive line for helping lead the way for him on his big night.

“Our offensive line had a fantastic week of practice. There were huge holes tonight, anybody could’ve run through those holes tonight,” Chisholm said.

In the first half it was Ryle’s defense that helped the Raiders jump out to a 28-3 advantage. Even Simon Kenton’s high powered offense could not dig out of this hole.

“Hats off to our defense in the first half. Our defense looked unreal in the first half and then we had some injures and had to back off a little bit.” Mike Engler.

The Ryle defensive produced three turnovers in the first half. Zach Smith returned a pick-six for a touchdown. Zach Rytlewski also snagged two interceptions giving him four on the season. Defense lineman Charles Golden was credited with three sacks in the opening half.

Chisholm put the Raiders on the board late in the first quarter with an 80-yard touchdown run.

Simon Kenton answered with a 29-yard field goal by Christian Segar cutting the Ryle lead to 7-3.

The Raiders put two touchdowns on the board in rapid fire order. Stefan Clarkson catching a 59-yard touchdown pass from Easton Pilyer started the flurry.

On the first play of the ensuing possession, Smith intercepted Matt Shearer’s pass and returned it 21 yards for another Ryle touchdown.

Chisholm threatened to turn the game into a blowout early with a second touchdown run, a 16-yard scamper with 4:39 left in the second quarter, extending the Ryle lead to 28-3.

The high powered Simon Kenton offense responded with 41-yard pass play from Shearer to Sam Murray, shaving Ryle’s lead to 28-10.

Both teams traded scores in the second half. Shearer threw three touchdowns in the second half, two to Murray and one to Hayden Fisher.

Chisholm scored all four of Ryle’s touchdowns in the second half and six and the seven scored by the Raiders offense in the game.

The win for Ryle marks the second season in a row that the Raiders have beat Simon Kenton and snapped an undefeated streak for the Pioneers.
