Dayton Round-Up: Vikings Stun Springfield

MIAMISBURG, oh – With a flare for the dramatic, Miamisburg knocked Springfield from the ranks of the unbeaten in an instant classic. Senior quarterback Justin Barry connected with classmate Jackson McGohan on an eight yard touchdown pass with eight seconds left in the game. Junior Christian Davis ran in the two-point conversion on a gutsy call by head coach, Lance Schneider.

Barry and McGohan hooked up three times for touchdowns through the air. The Springfield defense had only allowed one touchdown pass all season heading into Friday night. The Wildcats were holding opposing offenses to just 47.3 yards passing per game. Barry finished with 254 yards passing and no interceptions. McGohan had seven receptions for 152 yards. He has been red-hot the last two weeks with 13 catches for 262 yards and five touchdowns.

Springfield was paced by quarterback Te’Sean Smoot who ran for 111 yards and a score. Junior Ramon Browder carried the ball seven times for 73 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

WAYNE 28, SPRINGBORO 24 – Senior Tyler Dorsey found the end zone on three short runs during a 13-minute span of the second half to help Wayne (7-1, 5-1) to its fifth straight win. Dorsey has at least one rushing touchdown in all five of those victories. Springboro (4-4, 3-3) had no answers for the Warriors running game. Wayne had 310 yards on 50 carries. Jordan Ward led the way with 160 yards rushing. Brian Kinley added 121 yards on 11 carries.

– The dominance continues for Piqua (8-0, 7-0). The Indians mounted their fourth victory of 35-plus points in the last five weeks. Senior Jasiah Medley ran for four touchdowns on 20 carries for 193 yards. It is the fourth time this season that Medley has run for four scores. He has 1,262 yards and 24 touchdowns in eight games. Piqua defensive back Braiden Strayer picked off three passes giving him five on the year. He is tied for the MVL lead in interceptions.

– It was a statement game for Bellbrook (7-2, 5-1) who handled Monroe (7-2, 5-1) for its fifth straight win. Seth Borondy ran for 166 yards and a pair of scores. He also threw a 51-yard touchdown pass to Ethan Jenkins. During the Eagles winning streak Borondy is averaging 258.8 yards per game rushing with 18 touchdowns (16 rush, two rec).
