2023 TSF Dayton DPOY: Reggie Powers III

It was a historic night for Centerville and the Elks defensive back Reggie Powers III who was named the TriState Football Dayton Defensive of the Year, as TSF paid tribute to the area’s finest from Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, Dayton and Southeast Indiana at the Year in Review Show on Monday night, in front of a packed house at the Holy Grail in downtown Cincinnati.

A gifted athlete Powers III recorded 83 total tackles, one-and-a-half sacks, seven-and-a-half tackles for losses and two interceptions while playing a key role in Centerville winning the GWOC title for the first time since 2017. He also averaged 24.6 yards on 14 kickoff returns. Powers III work also earned him OPSWA Division I First Team All-Ohio, OPSWA Division I Southwest District Co-Defensive Player of the Year GWOC Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-TSF accolades.

Powers III, who has signed with Oklahoma ends his Centerville career with 197 total tackles (120 solo), two-and-a-half sacks, 14.5 tackles for losses, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and two interceptions.

Other 2023 TriState Football Dayton Defensive Player of the Year finalists included seniors Javon Hammonds Jr. (Wayne), Peyton Hoskins (Miamisburg), Nate Ostendorf (Badin), Bryce Reed (Valley View), Aaron Scott, Jr. (Springfield), Devon Strobel (Troy) and junior Jackson Heims (Springfield). This the second finalist nomination for Hammonds Jr.

TriStateFootball.com was founded in 2005 and started its postseason awards for Dayton in 2009. In the 15-year history of this award, Powers III is the first Elk to be name the TSF Dayton Defensive Player of the Year.
