SPRINGFIELD, ohio – It was sweet satisfaction for Springfield as it avenged its only regular season loss by blanking GWOC rival Fairmont in the Second Round of the Division I, Region 2 playoffs. Springfield has won 13 Region 2 postseason games in a row (one was a forfeit win over Northmont/Covid) dating back to 2019.

The Wildcats held the Firebirds to just 115 yards of total offense and to just 2-12 on third down conversions despite playing short-winded at times due to three turnovers by the Springfield offense.

It was the sixth straight win for the Wildcats since losing to Fairmont in late September. Quarterback Bryce Schondelmyer went 14-19 for 173 yards (a season low) and a pair of touchdown passes, upping his total to 37 on the year. Anthony Brown and Daylen Bradley were on the receiving end of those scoring tosses. It was Brown’s 15th and Bradley 11th touchdown receptions on the season, both career highs.

Springfield is in the semi-finals of the Region 2 tournament for a fourth straight year. The Wildcats have been the regional champions the past three seasons. In order, to move on they will have to get past another GWOC foe, Centerville, for a second time this season. Springfield went on the road and beat the Elks 38-10 to begin October. Centerville hasn’t beaten the Wildcats since 2017. Springfield has averaged 40.6 points with and average margin of victory of 25.6 points in the five wins against the Elks since that last defeat.
